compile error on libpng : zlibz not installed

Reported by: christian.kapeller@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: packages Version: Backfire 10.03.1 RC5
Keywords: Cc:

I get a build error in the configure step, when trying to compile libpng needed by qt4.

Build Environment: Ubuntu 10.10 x64

base: 10.03 (r27706)
packages: r27980
feeds: r27893

march= armv7-a
gcc: 4.4.3 and 4.3.3 +cs
glibc: 2.7

$make V=99 package/feeds/packages/libpng/compile | tee build.log

quits with:

checking for zlibVersion in -lz... no
configure: error: zlib not installed

The config.log file tells me, that it tried to link it's zlib testprogram, and failed with:

/home/chrkap/Development/src/openwrt/backfire/staging_dir/toolchain-arm_gcc-4.3.3+cs_glibc-2.7_eabi/usr/lib/gcc/arm-openwrt-linux-gnueabi/4.3.3/../../../../arm-openwrt-linux-gnueabi/bin/ld: final link failed: Nonrepresentable section on output

I found the same error message in ticket #4971 , and wiped everything with 'make distclean; make clean'. After a complete rebuild, the issue cropped up again.

The outcome is the same with both gcc 4.4.3 and gcc 4.3.3+cs.
