#9933 new defect

hotplug.d/iface/30-updatedd does not retry when DNS update failed

Reported by: bantu@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: packages Version: Backfire 10.03.1 RC4
Keywords: updatedd Cc:

Running "/etc/init.d/updatedd restart" via "hotplug.d/iface" instead of running it on a regular basis (e.g. with cron) is a neat idea, but there is one weakness in the current implementation:

When "/etc/init.d/updatedd restart" is called by hotplug and the DNS update fails (e.g. because the remote site is overloaded or in short maintainance), you're left with an outdated DNS entry until hotplug calls "/etc/init.d/updatedd restart" again.

A possible solution would be retrying in /usr/bin/updatedd and adding two config variables $max_retry_count and $retry_time. Other solutions are possible.
