#9870 closed defect (wontfix)

Tx Power limited to 19 dBm on Buffalo WZR-HP-AG300H

Reported by: Ryan Bullock <rrb3942@…> Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: tx power Cc:

Description

Using the trunk snapshot from July 30th my tx power seems to be limited to 19 dBm on the 2.4ghz radio. The web interface allows me to select 27 dBm, but when running iwconfig it only shows a tx power of 19 dBm.

Attempting to set it with iwconfig or iw phy0 make no changes when adjusting it above 19dBm.

In the dmesg output I see cfg80211 properly setting the max tx to 2700 mDm.

If you need any more information please let me know and I will get it once I am home.

there's the regulatory limit, and then there's the hardware limit. regulatory limit may say 27 dbm, but if the hardware only does 19 dbm then it won't show more than that.

previous versions of the code got that part wrong. even though it may seem that older versions had higher tx power, they only displayed more, but also did not use more than the hw limit.

CRAPPY ROUTER : WZR-HP-AG300h

I am in Republic of Botswana Africa I work as a well seasoned Electronic Engineer , who is an ICT Network Manager, I have bought 8 of these units I am also disappointed by both the 2.4ghz TX power (a max of 15dBm) and the 5ghz TX power (a max of 17dBm).

I have tried different firmware versions , to no avail I have also tried the latest BRAINSLAYER firmware , it gives me the same TX settings as stated above.

To Max the range I Glue Aluminium Foil (yes sandwhich wrapping foil) to the back of the antennas to make them more directional and get oomph range to compensate on the power Buffalo lied about.

The units however make great 5ghz WDS based bridges. Think Ruckus Wireless etc. First and Last time I buy Buffalo.

With Regards,
