Kernel & Package enchanments

Reported by: todorcolov@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Backfire 10.03.1
Component: toolchain Version: Trunk
Keywords: kernel, uclibc, gcc, compiler Cc:

  1. Kernel feature request for updates:

1.Could you please also add dm-crypt module in the standard the kernel build.
pacages/kernel/modules/ - file needs to be updated.
cryptsetup is available from the package repositories but without dm-crypt.ko module it cannot be used.
2.Please enabled in the kernel: "Enable KSM for page merging" - memory savings

3.Could you please update the kernel configuration to use "SLAB" instead of "SLUB" General setup -> Choose SLAB allocator (SLUB (Unqueued Allocator)) - SLAB is more stable especially for embedded systems

  1. Package enchanchments - updating compiler & uclibc

Please update the compiler to 4.5.x or 4.6.x and uclibc to 0.9.32-rc3 with "Thread library implementation (Native POSIX Threading (NPTL)) - enabled".
This give option to allow compiling of all other open sources packages that require NPTL functions - currently this is not possible.

  1. Comments about this ticket:
  2. Please do not open tickets that track lots of entirely separate things.
  3. It seems like you put everything but the kitchen sink in here :)
  1. Comments about the issues:
  2. For simple things like adding kernel modules to package/kernel, you can simply make patches yourself and submit them.
  3. Do you have any evidence of SLUB issues on embedded systems?
  4. Your point about the compilers and uclibc is moot - all of this is already in place.
  5. Have you actually tested KSM and do you have any data that indicates that it provides useful memory saving on embedded hardware?
