#9308 closed defect (fixed)

Beacon should include a Country Information Element

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

I have noticed that some Access-Points include a Country
Information Element, which is used by Clients (MacOS) to
determine which Channels are allowed. If you buy a Wireless
Card often it is flashed to US RegDomain, so it can't use
channels above 11 in Germany (though there are tool to reflash
some of the cards). By including the Country Information
into the Beacon Frame clients can learn the channel list

I have traced some beacons inour company (Cisco WLAN)
and definetively can find Country Information in the Beacon,
while I didn't find any in the Beacon frames from mky WNDR3700
running recent openwrt.

This is how it is decoded in Wireshark. As I understood it is part of the standards and should be present in all Access-Points.

Country Information: Country Code: DE, Any Environment
Tag Number: 7 (Country Information)
Tag length: 6
Tag interpretation: Country Code: DE, Any Environment
Start Channel: 1, Channels: 13, Max TX Power: 20 dBm
