RTL8188SU is a RTL8192 series chip that works with rtlwifi driver. I don't think it have fixed with r16022, maybe should commit this patch(https://lists.openwrt.org/pipermail/openwrt-devel/2012-March/014424.html) to trunk. Thanks.

The RTL8188SU does not work with rtlwifi driver: i've tried hardly without luck.
In the kernel staging drivers there is a driver called r8712u that works (tested with kernel 3.3.8), but it uses iee80211 instead of mac80211.
Found a "project" that has support for mac80211 in this family of chips, but seems to need improvements: https://github.com/chunkeey/rtl8192su
Because i haven't programming skills if someone can make a little patch i will test this driver hardly.

Regards.

Modified package/kernel/module/wireless.mk wich includes rtl8712u staging driver. This drivers does not use mac80211. Here is the patch.

Trying various drivers on OpenWrt Barrier Breaker r41055 (snapshot) - none will initialize this stick properly. No attempts to load the device firmware (/lib/firmware/rtlwifi has plenty of them.)

It seems, that this stick should be handled by the newer (mac80211) r8712u driver which is currently in staging.

Any hints?

Anything new?

Reminder:
Which driver is the appropriate one for use in Barrier Breaker/Bleeding Edge for this piece of hardware?

The only available driver has to be selected in the kernel drivers --> staging drivers --> RealTek RTL8712U, after selecting USB support --> [M]Support for Host-side USB.
In addition you need a firmware that must be placed in /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/r8712u.bin if i am right:
https://github.com/chunkeey/rtl8192su/tree/master/firmwares
The RTL8712U driver uses WEXT instead cfg80211/mac80211 so will not work fine with openwrt, but should work.
