#9080 closed defect (worksforme)

overlayfs gets mounted on /tmp/root instead of /

Reported by: ddxx0n Owned by: developers

Description

Somehow, on my system (WNDR3700 w/ 2.6.37.2) using latest trunk overlayfs doesn't get mounted on / but on /tmp/root - thus the root fs stays read-only.

I remember having this issue before, but only on first boot after installing a new openwrt firmware, after rebooting it always went away. With the latest trunk, even rebooting doesn't help.

... this was the working mini_fo r26195 filesystem layout (with mini_fo):

Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/root
                          4.9M 4.9M 0 100% /rom
tmpfs
                         30.3M 172.0K 30.1M 1% /tmp
tmpfs
                        512.0K 0 512.0K 0% /dev
/dev/mtdblock4
                          1.8M 516.0K 1.3M 28% /overlay
mini_fo:/overlay
                          4.9M 4.9M 0 100% /

... and this is the new r26215 broken filesystem layout (with overlayfs):

/dev/root

                           512 0 512 0% /dev

You need to run make target/linux/clean, otherwise the overlayfs patch doesn't make it into the kernel

Your're right, that did it - thx for the information, I didn't know that one yet, just used to rm -rf some stuff when upgrading to a newer kernel version.
