#9009 closed defect (invalid)

kmod_gre missing in current ar71xx builds (snaps)

Reported by: aenertia@… Owned by: jow
Priority: high Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: kmod-gre, gre, pptp, pppd Cc:

the gre kernel module is not being built in the current snapshots. This causes a lot of dependancy issues for other packages ( pptp among others).

Should also perhaps look at building in the accel-pptp and pppd packages as they are

a) provide better resource use.
b) better performance
c) intergrated pppd system for methods not included in standard pppd packages (pptp for instance as a pppd module)
d) have small packaging footprint

I have run into the same issue of no kmod-gre on ar71xx r25881. This seems to be the relevant patch:

hrm since this has been added v6 link local/ipcpv6 negotiation fails on the pptp link. See : /ticket/9418.html

I think we need to rationalise the way pptp connections are initialised via scripts. I am unsure if the various pptp and kernel /pppd patches now allow for pptp to be intitialised like any other ppp module helper rather than relying on the external client.

needs investigating anyhow, as pptp is broke for ipv6, and using pptp relays with older dsl hardware is one of the few routes to native ipv6 many people have.
