#8941 closed enhancement (fixed)

CW-5354U runs 2.4 kernel but not 2.6 kernel

Reported by: Rolf Leggewie <…> Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: packages Version: Backfire 10.03.1 RC4
Keywords: Cc:

I have a CW-5354U device ( which seems to be generally similar to the ASUS WL-500GP and D-Link DIR-320. It runs a brcm-2.4 backfire RC4 image just fine. But the 2.6 kernel image fails to boot. I don't have a JTAG but will try to extract as much information as possible from the running 2.4 system. Let me know if there is anything missing.

(21:51:07) Laibsch: what are suggestions on what I should do when a router runs fine with brcm-2.4 but fails to come up with a 2.6 kernel?
My understanding is that the biggest difference is the move from the proprietary wl wifi driver to something FOSS.
So, my current idea is to compile an image with a 2.6 kernel that has no wifi support and hope that was causing the crash,
allowing me to boot the device when that is not included.
(21:51:11) Laibsch: Opinions?
(21:52:14) PsyMan: maybe it's a patch applied to the previous kernel
(21:52:19) PsyMan: but not to the new
(21:57:50) jow_laptop: or missing serial flash support in kernel 2.6

comment:2 Changed 7 years ago by jogo

It's definitely not missing serial flash support.

Physically mapped flash: Found an alias at 0x1000000 for the chip at 0x0
 Amd/Fujitsu Extended Query Table v1.3 at 0x0040
number of CFI chips: 1

=> parallel flash detected

and the serial flash driver didn't detect any devices:

sflash: found no supported devices

I'm happy to say that the router is now fully supported even with 2.6 kernel in RC6. Thanks, guys! Please close the ticket as fixed.

can you gave us the download link of the image file for this CW-5354u using 2.6 kernel in RC6?
