rtl8366xx Broadcasting All Packets on All Ports Reduces Gigabit Switch Throughput to 10 Mbit/s

Reported by: xanderp123 Owned by: developers
Priority: high Milestone: Backfire 10.03.1
Component: base system Version: Trunk
Keywords: rtl8366xx TP-Link TL-WR1043ND router driver forwarding Cc:

Description

I started a thread in the forum before I discovered that I could create a ticket. Here are the details from the forum thread at http://forum.fw5.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=109&start=0:

I have a TP Link WR1043ND that I received from Acanac in September for use with MLPPP. The firmware included on the router is OpenWrt/MLPPP 1.0-rc2. This version of the firmware has learning disabled on the switch causing all packets to be forwarded on all switch ports in the same VLAN. This defect was addressed with OpenWRT ticket #7637 (/ticket/7637.html) and fixed in r2245 (/changeset/22545.html) and r2246 (/changeset/22546.html).

This is causing a problem for me since I have VoIP as my primary phone service and transferring a file across the local network or streaming video to the TV causes noticeable dropouts on any VoIP phone calls. I know that I could create yet another VLAN for the VoIP adapter as a workaround, but I'm sure others are experiencing the same problem and it would be nice to get this fixed properly.

After some more investigation, I've discovered that this problem seems to reduce the performance of the gigabit switch 10 Mbit/s!!
If I try transferring a file across the network using a hard drive connected to the router's USB 2.0 port, or two PC's connected to the router's gigabit switch ports, the transfer crawls at a measly 10 Mbit/s (approx 1 MByte/s). However, if I connect both PC's to a separate, properly functioning gigabit switch (even if the switch is connected to the router's switch), I get a full 100 Mbit/s transfer rate. (One of the PC's has only a 100 Mbit/s NIC).

I've tried to compile OpenWRT/MLPPP from this site, but there are lots of problems with the patches the build script tries to apply.

I doubt I'm the only Acanac customer experiencing this issue :(

[22545] and [22546] where both submitted on August 8th.

Fw.5 1.0-rc2 firmware appears to have been released on or before August 2nd.

If I were you, I would be requesting Acanac/Fw.5 to build a new firmware based on Backfire, not Trunk.
