Midnight Commander - missing VFS

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Trunk

Description

Midnight Commander is missing VFS support and is unable to browse compressed archives. The Makefile install also does not create all files (missing mcview link and support files in /usr/share/mc).
Browsing tgz and tar.bz2 works fine when vfs support is compiled in and support files installed. VFS support adds about 80K to the mc binary (on my ar71xx) so perhaps this should be made configurable instead of defaulting to on.

And there is still one "mkdir" in post-install script missing:

on x86 the dir ./root/.mc is autocreated on first run, but not on openwrt.
Please add an "mkdir ./root/.mc" to the postinstall-script.

Without this dir, config changes and last options are not saved/rememberd!

In my opinion creating ./root/.mc directory by postinstall script doesn't make sense for openwrt, because openwrt is working with devices with flash memory. Saving history files by mc in that case could greatly reduce life of flash memory. So in my opinion default behaviour of openwrt is safe for most users.
