Client mode works just fine for me. Your config looks suspiciously default too, set the right channel, ssid and encryption for your AP, then retry. The encode errors are normal.

comment:2 Changed 7 years ago by jow

Also don't bridge wifi when running in client mode.
Follow the howto at http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/recipes/routedclient

I would like to join the 741nd (client) with the 741nd (AP).

AP mode is working, but the same config in client is not working.

comment:6 Changed 7 years ago by mgalpha <service@…>

With the same config wr841nd(atheros mac80211), the same result ap is working and client mode not working.
The same with the Asus 500PV2.

comment:7 Changed 7 years ago by jow

You have client mode wifi bridged to lan. This *will not work*. Put the client mode wifi into a dedicated network, setup routing and it should work.

comment:8 Changed 7 years ago by mgalpha <service@…>

Also try psk2, 11n requires CCMP encryption.

I have a tp-link 841nd with backfire/10.03.1-rc3/ar71xx/openwrt-ar71xx-tl-wr841nd-v5-squashfs-factory.bin.

I want to have client + ap mode. Client mode (wep) works, and AP mode (wpa2-psk) works, but not together.

When trying to make it work together, I didn't bridged client mode wifi to lan. I bridged it to wan, custom. Then I even bridged AP mode wifi to custom and AP mode wifi to wan... it doesn't work.

If I disable AP mode wifi, client mode works (ifconfig wlan0 down), otherwise, neither does.

wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn Mode:Master Frequency:2.462 GHz Tx-Power=27 dBm
          RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:off

wlan1 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"lotr"
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: 00:22:33:FC:5A:78
          Bit Rate=1 Mb/s Tx-Power=27 dBm
          RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:6372-6233-67
          Power Management:off
          Link Quality=41/70 Signal level=-69 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

One more thing, another interface in monitor mode appears automatically:

mon.wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn Mode:Monitor Tx-Power=27 dBm
          RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:off

Even when disabled, a scan from other host shows the ESSID of wifi0, but can't connect.
