wifi connection lost after ar71xx-wdt: enabling watchdog timer on DIR-615

Reported by: Troex Nevelin <troex@…> Owned by: nbd
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: kernel Version: Backfire 10.03

Description

I'm using backfire on DIR-615 revю С2, from time to time wifi drops connection and I'm unable to connect anymore but still AP is visible, reboot or rmmod ath9k && insmod ath9k && wifi helps.

In dmesg I get ar71xx-wdt: enabling watchdog timer

I've tried switching from WPA2 to WEP and Open mode but still this problem occurs. What interesting it happens only when Windows 7 machine is connected, this bug does not happen with different Linux, Mac machines connected.

The watchdog timer message is unrelated, it just happens to be the last log entry written to dmesg.

Please tell which wireless chipset is used on the Windows 7 machine.

Also run hostapd logging...

killall -9 hostapd; hostapd -dd /var/run/hostapd-phy0.conf

... connect your windows client, make the wifi crash and post the resulting log here.

This is also happening on a linksys 160nl (Atheros AG7100) running backfire rc3

Same problem here with DIR-615 C1 running backfire 10.3.1 rc3 Have two wifi interfaces setup.

The only way to kinda workaround fix it is run wifi up command. Going to put in in cron to run periodically and see if that keeps my connection up.

Here is the hostapd log and system log. Seems like authentication fails all of a sudden and then keeps on retrying until the client gives up.

Windows machine is using Intel 3945ABG, btw my linux machine uses the same card, both of them are permanently connected to AP.

ar71xx-wdt: enabling watchdog timer happens exactly when wifi goes down. I will attach log next time.

You were right ar71xx-wdt: enabling watchdog timer is not related, sorry.

00:19:d2:85:87:b0 - Linux machine
00:19:d2:84:25:38 - Windows 7 machine
Both Intel 3945ABG, I've updated windows drivers to the latest version available version from Intel website.

Line 265 - I pressed Ctrl+C

One more interesting notice, if I run hostapd -dd .. after first AP lost it work for about minute and fails again. I reloaded ath9k module and run hostapd -dd .., now it works already for about an hour with no AP lost.
I will attach another log when AP is lost again.

I've captured full log starting from system boot. Worked for about 4 hours, but some times this can be less or up to 2 days.

I can confirm that my problem with 10.03.1-rc4 on DIR-615 rev. C2 went away. I think it was some hostapd related problem.
