Issue with image builder

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Backfire 10.03.1
Component: packages Version: Backfire 10.03
Keywords: Cc:

Description

I've downloaded the image builder from http://downloads.openwrt.org/backfire/10.03/brcm-2.4/OpenWrt-ImageBuilder-brcm-2.4-for-Linux-i686.tar.bz2

and encountered the following issue while building a custom image for my Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 :

The profile Broadcom for this image builder archive includes the packages hotplug2 and udevtrigger.

However, the default brcm-2.4 firmware does not include these packages (they are not needed?), and udevtrigger is not even available for the brcm-2.4 target!

I've just encountered the same issue in a self-compiled ImageBuilder from backfire branch. The problematic file is include/target.mk which contains

# Additional packages for Linux 2.6
ifneq ($(KERNEL),2.4)
  DEFAULT_PACKAGES += udevtrigger hotplug2
endif

xMff suggested in IRC to simply comment those lines out.

Obviously the test is not working as expected. I don't know much about automake and friends and the wrt build system. But I wonder if $(KERNEL) is the right way to specify the kernel version. Another possible point this falls apart is if $(KERNEL) contains host not target kernel. Third thing I can think of right now is that only testing for 2.4 is not what's needed, 2.4.38 is not equal to 2.4 and thus gets the packages?
