#7455 new defect

Build process insists on downloading kernel source even when git repository is given

Reported by: eric.anderson@… Owned by: developers
Priority: low Milestone:
Component: toolchain Version: Backfire 10.03
Keywords: build make download kernel git Cc:

The summary mostly covers it: I have a development version of the kernel in my local git repository (currently based on The OpenWRT build process does clone and use my git repo, but it first tries to download a tarball, even though it never subsequently uses said file. Conceptually, it seems like the download phase should only pull down files which the prepare phase will actually use.

In the normal case, where you're working with a kernel which exists in the public ftp sites, this just wastes a little time and bandwidth. Since my version doesn't exist there, the build process fails. Just touch-ing a fake file in the dl/ directory is an acceptable work-around.
