#7320 closed defect (invalid)

buidroot defaults enforcement (mac os x)

Reported by: nino.arconi@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Backfire 10.03.1
Component: kernel Version: Backfire 10.03
Keywords: Cc:

Description

I am not sure whether this is a bug -- it is possible that i am not doing something correctly.

What i need to do is compile kernel and openwrt basefiles image that contains exactly the list of modules that i select.

On mac os x i am doing:

  • svn co backfire
  • make prereq
  • make menuconfig
  • make kernel_menuconfig
  • make

In menuconfig and kernel_menuconfig i am going throught all the menus and carefully selecting exact set of modules and options i need. I know linux kernel modules very well and i know exactly what i want to do.

However, in resulting kernel and base image most of the options i have chosen are ignored -- the resulting kernel and image are built with default modules and options.

tl;dr:

  1. What should i do to skip/ignore openwrt buildroot defaults enforcement ?
  • or -
  1. If defaults enforcement is not the problem - is it possible that there is a problem in parsing config files on mac os ?

Additional info: On mac os i have xcode 3.1.3 (leopard 10.5), gcc and ld symlinked correctly to latest version, and i am using macports with the following ports installed: gawk gnutar getopt wget quilt qemu findutils diffutils and coreutils +with_default_names

i am not sure whether this is a bug in config files parsing on mac os or i am not doing something correctly. If it is the later - please kindly drop me a hint or point me what to read.

Thanks :)

You typically want your modules to appear on the rootfs, and not just in the kernel build tree. For that you need to select the kmod-* packages that include the kernel modules that you want, instead of messing with the kernel config directly.
