Backfire 10.03-rc1: setting gateway to a different subnet fails

Reported by: evilpfeiffers@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Backfire 10.03.1
Component: base system Version: backfire 10.03 RC1
Keywords: network, gateway Cc:

Description

Problem:
setting the gateway of an interface to a different subnet with route fails.
e.g. iface wlan0 ip: 192.168.10.1, gateway: 192.168.2.1
I've tried this:
route add default gw 192.168.2.2 dev wlan0
Error: route: SIOCADDRT: No such process

The same behavior with all interfaces.

If the gateway is in the same subnet as the iface then it works.
Platform: brcm47xx, Router: Linksys wrt54gs v1.1

Could you please specify the network mask of wlan0 interface?

Replying to acinonyx:

Could you please specify the network mask of wlan0 interface?

netmask: 255.255.255.0
same error with 255.255.0.0

my config is following:
eth0.0: 192.168.2.2, netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway: 192.168.2.1
wlan0: 192.168.10.1, netmask 255.255.255.0, gateway: 129.168.2.2 (error when setting gateway)

this works fine in 8.09, in 10.03-rc1 it fails.

What you're trying to do does not make sense. A router should not normally have multiple default routes (there are some exceptions of course).

In particular, you appear to be trying to make the default gateway out the wlan0 interface, to be the IP of your eth0.0 interface. This is why it's failing.

Could you please clarify what it is you're trying to accomplish? Either way, this is not likely to be a bug, and you should probably seek assistance on the forum.

greets and sorry.
