#629 closed defect (wontfix)

some valid WPA passwords produce errors

Reported by: stephent98@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: 0.9/rc6
Component: packages Version:
Keywords: Cc:

Description

When attempting to set the following WPA password from the web interface:
Ffc]W=m_1&u2B>Kl-$'f6M{D8;JzQ<H&tz,n`~Gb9$zQLLcKYaI{-G4E);R@Bj_
I get the following error:
eval: 8: Syntax error: EOF in backquote substitution

According to the IEEE 802.11i standard, a WPA password
may include any printable ASCII character (ASCII characters 32 through 126 decimal).
This specification is in Annex H.4.1 of:
http://standards.ieee.org/getieee802/download/802.11i-2004.pdf

This password was computer generated here:
Perfect Passwords
GRC's Ultra High Security Password Generator
63 random printable ASCII characters:
https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm

Other possible passwords cause
commands to be executed or corrupt HTML to be generated.
Examples include:
`date;;`
1234\"<br/>5678

The same problems occur
when the above strings are entered as an ESSID or as a Host Name.

Router: Linksys WRT54GL v. 1.1
Firmware: WHITE RUSSIAN (RC5)
Browser: Mozilla 1.7.13
