sn9 from the freenodeirc #openwrt channel hinted that this might be a bug because my configuration looks fine, so I decided to report it.

might not be an openwrt bug
many providers only allow one pppoe session
so if the previous session wasn't disconnected properly, it needs to timeout first
and while it hasn't timeouted yet, pppoe often throws PADS errors
happens to me as well if my router gets disconnected without logging out

That was certainly not the case because I tried rebooting the router, the modem, etc serveral times, had the new firmware sitting the whole night without it beeing able to connect, etc.

From what I can see, it's probably related to faulty changes in the switch driver code, which were introduced in r18214 and fixed in r18289.
Please try a recent version

I did as suggested, but I think I bricked my router. Please refer to
I'd be very thankfull if someone could help me fixing this again, if it is possible :(
