Multiple PPP Connections

Reported by: aporter@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version:

Currently if a user would like to have multiple PPP connections, for example a PPPoE connection on WAN and a 3G connection out of a USB port, the user would have to manually configure the connections with different ifnames as to avoid conflicts, eg, network.datacard.ifname="ppp1"

It would be useful if the scan_ppp() function in /lib/network/ could check for existing pppX devices and then intelligently set the ifname to pppX+1.

I was using

ifconfig | grep ppp | awk '{print $1}' | sed -e 's/ppp//'

To get the X in pppX for currently active PPP devices.
