#5721 closed enhancement (fixed)

Validate kernel-version selected for packages

Reported by: linus.luessing@… Owned by: developers
Priority: low Milestone: Features Paradise
Component: toolchain Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

It would be great, if the Makefile could be changed in the way, that it would check for inconsistency between the selected kernel-version for the packages and the kernel-version for the kernel itself.
If this is not the case, the make-procedure should be aborted saying something like: "Error: Your kernel version does not the match the kernel version selected for the packages. Please check your .config or refresh it with a 'make menuconfig'."
This would prevent other users without a serial console from becoming insane. (see #5718 for example, where this caused an annoying kernel panic which was not easy to fetch without a serial console)
