kernel panic with 2.6.30.5 kernel: Magic bitmask 0x1985 not found at ...

Reported by: linus.luessing@… Owned by: developers
Priority: high Milestone: Kamikaze 8.09.2
Component: kernel Version: Trunk

Description

We've been trying to build and flash an openwrt-image created from the trunk revision 17296. Unfortunatly, it's not possible to boot the rootfs-part: "VFS: Cannot open root device "<NULL>" or unknown-block(31,2)"" appears after a lot of "jffs2_scan_eraseblock(): Magic bitmask 0x1985 not found at [...]". A complete debug output from the serial console has been attached.

Ok, found the problem now. The thing was, that we were using an old .config file which we now updated with another 'make menuconfig':

-CONFIG_LINUX_2_6_28=y
+CONFIG_LINUX_2_6_30=y

I opened a new wishlist ticket here, an additional check already in the make-procedure would be great: #5721
This ticket here can be set to fixed.
