Python does not support large files

Reported by: mitar Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07

Description

I have been using rdiff-backup and I have noticed that Python does not support large (> 2 GB) files as its os.stat function returns only signed int file sizes. As ls and stat worked without problems on large files (on my Asus WL500GPv2) I have tried to compile Python with support for large files. I have found that support is disabled through Python configure script because size of off_t is set to 4 in include/site/mipsel-linux file. I have set ac_cv_sizeof_off_t to 8, compiled Python and now Python's stat supports large files and it seems nothing is broken because of that.

Why is off_t set to 4? Would it be possible to set it to 8? Or at least somehow overwrite this in Python package.
