I've the same problem on a:

UBNT RsPro + WLM54AG-6BP23 (madwifi) + r18121
I've tested this board with stable backfire, r20653 compiled with ImageBuilder, r18961 from trunk, r21380 and r21440, same issue.

same here on the EAP7660D running backfire trunk when i try ath_info. I got EnGenius mini-pci modules in that box here as well...
