Normal CAPTCHAs can be hacked through OCR. reCAPTCHA does not have that problem.

Replying to anonymous:

Here is a trac plugin for reCAPTCHA: http://code.sixapart.com/trac/mtplugins/browser/trunk/reCaptcha

Sorry I made a mistake, here is the link to the trac plugin: http://trac-hacks.org/wiki/TracRecaptchaPlugin

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

Those plugins work only with older trac versions, so the trac spamfilter plugin has been installed now.

I don't want to spam - just in case you want to go with reCAPTCHA in the future, you might want to look at a plugin of mine which adds reCAPTCHA support for tickets, is well supported and tested: http://www.schwarz.eu/opensource/projects/trac_captcha/

I'm in favour for this plugin. See also [1]

SpamFilter plugin today also supports reCaptcha.

  • Owner changed from developers to agb
  • Status changed from reopened to accepted

We have updated our trac spam filters recently and will enable one of several forms of captcha if need be, but our current configuration is rather effective at stopping spam without flagging legitimate posts.

I'm going to tentatively accept this ticket but don't see a pressing need to add a captcha unless bots get smarter or our users actively want a captcha.
