Powerlevel on 8.09 rc2 brcm-2.4 defaults to 32 dBm

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: highest Milestone: Kamikaze 8.09 RC2
Component: base system Version:
Keywords: txpower Cc:

Description

Installed 8.09 RC2 brcm-2.4-squashfs on my wrt54g version 2.0 and the default powerlevel when I enable wireless is reported by iwconfig to be 32 dBm.

I have tried adding option txpower 18 in /etc/config/wireless, but it makes no difference.

If I run 'iwconfig wl0 txpower 18' manually, iwconfig reports that the powerlevel has changed.

Marking this as high priority as I fear that it has the potential to damage the hardware. Please assign a lower priority if this is not a realistic concern.

Also.. Nothing to do with this bugreport, but will broadcom devices like the wrt54g work with wireless (wpa, wpa2, etc) under the "new" 2.6 kernel or should I stick with the 2.4 kernel for stability?

My /etc/config/wireless looks like this:

config wifi-device wl0

option type broadcom
option channel 11
option txpower 18

config wifi-iface

option device wl0
option network lan
option mode ap
option ssid Home

option type broadcom
option channel 11
option txpower 18

config wifi-iface
option device wl0
option network lan
option mode ap
option ssid Home
