rc5: network link to dsl-modem won't be established

Description

Experiencing a problem that wasn't there in rc3:
Plugging my modem (German Telekom Teledat 430LAN) directly to my WRT54g v1.1 won't work. The wrt link-led for the port flashes slowly, the modem's ethernet led shows no link. Connecting WRT's WAN-Port and the modem to a switch works.

I suppose it's a problem with link auto-negotiation in the new ethernet driver.
I could try to fix it by setting /proc/switch/eth0/port/5/media manually, but found no docs?

The autonegotiation is not done by any driver. The switch does it in hardware. By the way, the correct port to set media settings on is 0, not 5. 5 is the cpu port.
Try setting it to '10HD'.

Using a differnent modem (same type, Teledat430) solves the problem.
Strange.

Seems to me, that the Modem you used before has some hardware fault.
