#441 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Service stopping/starting and/or Rebooting through Webif

Reported by: lostnihilist Owned by: developers
Priority: low Milestone: 0.9/rc6
Component: other Version:

Description

Trying to start/stop some services from the CLI can be hazardous if a mistake is made, particularly with dropbear, leading to a possible lockout until a hard reboot is done. Making it possible to reboot the router would be a fixall for these situations. Being able to stop, restart, and start services in /etc/init.d/ from the webif would be a more nuanced way to do this.

Most of the init.d scripts are only written to handle the start case and absolutely ignore any arguments passed to them. The reasoning is pretty simple -- pretty much everything is intended to be run from the second the device boots until the device is unplugged, so stop/restart was overkill.
