Description

I have a DS2490 USB to 1-wire adaptor on my NSLU2.

When trying digitemp_DS2490 -w, I get the following error message:

Hi, I recently got the same error and managed to fix it. I believe in my case my ds2490 adapter is simply flaky (usb connection does not consistently mate properly).

It may help to look at the kernel log (dmesg command). Here's an excert of what I saw.

At first boot:
ub 3-0:1.0: USB hub found
hub 3-0:1.0: 2 ports detected
Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
hub 3-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 1. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
hub 3-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 1. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
hub 3-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 1. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
hub 3-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 1. Maybe the USB cable is bad?
hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 1
usbcore: registered new interface driver usb-storage
USB Mass Storage support registered.
hub 2-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 1

After removing the device and re-seating it:

usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 6
usb 3-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

If yours is a hardware problem like mine, then it might help to debug without any wires connected to the adapter -- these can flex the connection and worsen the problem I was having.

cheers...
mike
