crond errors in logread

Reported by: isleman Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Features Paradise
Component: base system Version: Kamikaze trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

All logread cron messages are "cron.err" ones.

cron.err crond[662]: crond (busybox 1.11.1) started, log level 8
...
...
cron.err crond[662]: USER root pid nnn command ls -al > /tmp/dum
...
cron.err crond[662]: USER root pid mmm command ls -al > /tmp/dum

I've compiled and flashed a plain kamikaze trunk (r12544) with a simple command in root crontab so no changes were added to the base system.

  • Milestone changed from Kamikaze 808 RC-1 to Kamikaze Features Paradize

All busybox syslogging is currently done using LOG_ERR, so we'd have to change that ourselves or wait for the change to appear upstream...

  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed
  • Version set to Kamikaze trunk

[patchteam] Unsure if this is still an issue or if it is something that needs to be reported upstream to the busybox project. Either way, not fatal and really old, so closing as wontfix. Please report on a new ticket if this is still an issue (or report directly upstream to busybox).

This can now be fixed by updating busybox to lastest stable release 1.16.1.
This can be seen on http://www.busybox.net/ on 1.16.1 unstable release changelog:

"crond: do not log info messages at LOG_ERR. Closes bug 681"

Awesome if a fix is on the way. On Kamikaze 8.09, r21756 the bug is def still there.

In my crontab I have: */5 * * * * sh /root/script.sh

The script executes fine, but always leaves an error to syslog:
Jun 13 05:00:01 OpenWrt cron.err crond[4232]: USER root pid 4259 cmd sh /root/script.sh

I'm new to openwrt and i'm not shore how this works.
I think that if there is a fix it will be pushed to version next to the last one? (10.3)

The kamikaze 8.09 is now outdated and you should update to 10.3 and to the next version where it is released, possibly with this fix.
