Any hope of settling on a single Asterisk version if/when a stable 1.6 is added since the upkeep on the other two is enough trouble already?

Certainly we should only have 2 asterisks maximum - stable and unstable. Possibly it should be asterisk and asterisk-beta as the directories, so that when 1.6 becomes stable, it gets shuffled down to asterisk/ directory.

I've been working on breaking out the Asterisk 1.4 modules into many packages. It is currently sitting in the luci svn (asterisk-xip) while we work on it. It would be worth merging the 1.6 changes into this format.

Part of the reason for moving to luci svn is the massive (not really tested) change to the package design, and partly so that I can freely check-in the uci configuration changes so that the LUCI frontend can be developed.

added in [14304] as a very basic main package, geared towards the "many packages" approach; you are welcome provide/commit any patches you may have; since the 1.2.x removal (in packages/net/asterisk) we can consider 1.4.x stable and 1.6.x beta
