hi im using trunk rev 11950

and im using openssh, kernel-nfsd and dnsmasq ....

while using nfs i get this errors ....

Transmission (also as rtorrent) uses a memory mapping feature. When it catches a local peer, a download speed will be far more then disk writing speed. In this case LinuxVM does have no time to allocate another page (on disk!) or allocate some swap space (on disk!). It's not a linux fault:) Just limit download speed in your torrent program and reserve some "untochable reserve" in the LinuxVM:

echo 8096 > /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes

It helps in a case of NFS usage too.

Actually this issue has been happening when transmissionbt try to commit the downloaded file. (99% to 100% )
When transmissionbt is doing the download it works perfectly until the commitment.
but of course, I'm going to try this min_free_kbytes option and I'm back here to report the result.

Hello,
I've been trying several different settings in sysctl.conf and also using ulimit.
Unfortunately I did not get any positive results.
The bug seems to happens when files larger than 1.4GB are copied from terminal, samba or transmission...
I'm not sure but its looks like to be an ext3 kernel bug.

Hello all,
primarily I need to give you a little background about mine environment.
I have been using Openwrt Backfire 10.03.1 as a NAS for bt-transmission and Samba network. I have 1TB of real data and 500MB defined as swap partition for Backfire.

So as workaround for OOM I have set this follow settings in kernel:

Remembering that this is not a solution, its is a works.

vm.min_free_kbytes=2048
vm.swappiness=90
vm.overcommit_memory=2
vm.overcommit_ratio=145

I really encourage anyone who wants to implement this method to do a research for more information on all this sugested paramenters and also to do a research of how Linux works with overcommited memory.
