Sierra Wireless drivers for brcm-2.4

Reported by: aoz.syn@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Kamikaze 8.09 RC1
Component: kernel Version:
Keywords: sierra 2.4 pcmcia 3g Cc:

Description

OpenWRT provides explicit support for the WRT54G3G, but only under brcm-2.4 since the PCMCIA bus does not yet work under 2.6 kernels.

Sierra Wireless produces some of the most-used PCMCIA 3G cards in the US, but only writes drivers for the 2.6 kernel and has expressed zero interest in backporting.

Linksys backported the sierra.c driver to 2.4.17/2.4.20 and included it in the GPL tarballs for the WRT54G3G.

I cleaned up the driver in January, re-based it on 2.4.35.4, and have been running it as CPE with zero issues or downtime for just at seven months. Other users have picked up the patch from the postings on the development ML and used it with zero issues.

This seems like a no-brainer to me - it's a good driver and a clean patch, but it's been ignored because nobody wants to touch anything related to a 2.4 kernel.

Please - either help me fix the 2.6 PCMCIA driver for 8.08 or at least look at this patch and let me know what's wrong with it (other than that it's for brcm-2.4).
