#3061 closed enhancement (fixed)

iconv and convmv support

Reported by: Flo Owned by: developers
Priority: low Milestone: Features Paradise
Component: packages Version:
Keywords: iconv convmv Cc: flo@…

Description

Hi,

this is a reporters ticket:

adding iconv ( http://www.gnu.org/software/libiconv/ ) and convmv ( http://www.j3e.de/linux/convmv/ ) support in userspace might be a kind feature for Kamikaze to convert mounted filesystem contents.

The libiconv library is already in packages.

It is stripped down to almost unusable state.

I tried to add at least the encodings supported by the kernel's nls modules, including the iconv package, see https://svn.berlios.de/viewcvs/xwrt/whiterussian/package/libiconv/ (scheduled for porting to Kamikaze). But it is still not sufficient for the convmv application.
The convmv package is useful in the full-featured system. Its dependancy on perl is making it almost unusable for devices limited in the flash/ram memory.

Hi,

does anyone know good alternatives to convert filenames (and filecontents) from latin1 to utf8 or reverse which may fit for the OpenWRT architecture?
