iconv and convmv support

this is a reporters ticket:

adding iconv ( ) and convmv ( ) support in userspace might be a kind feature for Kamikaze to convert mounted filesystem contents.

The libiconv library is already in packages.

It is stripped down to almost unusable state.

I tried to add at least the encodings supported by the kernel's nls modules, including the iconv package, see (scheduled for porting to Kamikaze). But it is still not sufficient for the convmv application.
The convmv package is useful in the full-featured system. Its dependancy on perl is making it almost unusable for devices limited in the flash/ram memory.

does anyone know good alternatives to convert filenames (and filecontents) from latin1 to utf8 or reverse which may fit for the OpenWRT architecture?
