#2566 closed defect (fixed)

dnsmasq uses filterwin2k by default, which blocks SRV records needed e.g. by XMPP

According to, sections 14.3 and 14.4, XMPP (Jabber) uses SRV records to discover XMPP servers for domains, which don't have an A record pointing to the jabber server. Unfortunately, dnsmasq blocks them when filterwin2k is enabled, which was quite surprising to me.

This is also mentioned in the FAQ at for breaking SIP phones.

From the dnsmasq example config file:

Uncomment this to filter useless windows-originated DNS requests which can trigger dial-on-demand links needlessly. Note that (amongst other things) this blocks all SRV requests, so don't use it if you use eg Kerberos.

So, if this option is only enabled to prevent dial on demand, then it should probably only be enabled while the router is offline.
