#22603 new defect

root partition size of 512MB for OpenWRT x86 & x86_64 builds

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: highest Milestone:
Component: base system Version: Trunk
Keywords: x86 64 Cc:

Description

Hi. There is out of space error in your OpenWRT small default partition size of 50MB.

Please make OpenWRT x86_64 and x86 builds with root partition size of 512MB (or more). At least, do this for the snapshots and for future releases.

can name builds such as...
openwrt-x86-64-combined-ext4-512MB.img.gz
openwrt-x86-64-combined-squashfs-512MB.img
openwrt-15.05.1-x86-64-combined-squashfs-512MB.img
openwrt-15.05.1-x86-64-combined-ext4-512MB.img.gz

Or, make 512MB as the default in the existing build names.

This is essential for real usability of builds. Thanks.

You can build your own custom image to solve "out of space error" if you have enough memory on your device!

$ make menuconfig

Target Images --->

Kernel partition size (in MB)
Root filesystem partition size (in MB)

$ make world

And you can build all packages, drivers, ETC in to an image...

If you do so, I think that you will enter the world of broken links compiling errors ETC...
But if is essential for "real usability of builds" as you stated, THEN is small price to pay! ;)

Hi, Thanks for the helpful information. That is rather advanced and complicated. Please at least change the x86 and x86_64 builds to more than 50MB of partition space. At least as much space as a powerful consumer or business router. Thanks.
