#21818 new defect

operstate returns unknown on wan/pppoe-wan

Description

On both CHAOS CALMER (15.05, r46767) and DD (I didn't take note of the build, but I d/led it yesterday morning UTC) the /sys/class/net/pppoe-wan/operstate returns unknown instead of what I suspect is meant to be up.

It's a clean install on a TP-Link WDR3600v1 where the WAN port is connected to a PPPOE modem. Everything is basically "default".

I only stumbled across this issue because the adblock package looks for the wan device to be up to work.

If you need logs or more information let me know. I didn't see any "please supply this info" documentation.

The value unknown is documented as:

"IF_OPER_UNKNOWN (0): Interface is in unknown state, neither driver nor userspace has set operational state. Interface must be considered for user data as setting operational state has not been implemented in every driver."

"/sys/class/net/<device>/operstate" its bad in the first place to check wan is working, "up" just mean its have a link up but not a valid configuration "adblock" should use a other way to check wan
