#21788 new defect

Phantom wan_6 interface

Reported by: timoce Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: base system Version: Trunk
Keywords: wan_6 ipv6 Cc:

Description

On Bleeding Edge, r48558. After disabling ipv6, still seeing a phantom wan_6 interface in logs despite zero reference to 'wan_6' in any config files.

Tue Feb 2 04:07:24 2016 daemon.notice netifd: Network alias 'eth0.1' link is up
Tue Feb 2 04:07:24 2016 daemon.notice netifd: Interface 'wan_6' is enabled
Tue Feb 2 04:07:24 2016 daemon.notice netifd: Interface 'wan_6' has link connectivity
Tue Feb 2 04:07:24 2016 daemon.notice netifd: Interface 'wan_6' is setting up now
Tue Feb 2 04:07:24 2016 daemon.notice netifd: Interface 'wan_6' is now up

Setting option enabled '0' in interface 'wan6' didn't help. Neither was remarking out the whole interface 'wan6'.

Workaround fix is to specially define a 'wan_6' interface to disable it:

config interface 'wan_6'
        option ifname 'eth0.1'
        option enabled '0'

What is this phantom interface 'wan_6' with the underscore before 6? How did it get there.

Sorry, the milestone is wrong. It should be the current DD trunk

What is your wan protocol? Some protocols like pppoe will automatically spawn an IPv6 interface if IPv6 information is receieved from the ISP. If your wan is of type PPPoE then set "option ipv6" to 0.

Wan protocol is dhcp, with ipv6 disabled:

config interface 'wan'
        option ifname 'eth0.1'
        option proto 'dhcp'
        option ipv6 '0

Above shows wan_6 coming up with wan. Is there a fix for this?

Btw my workaround doesn't fix it as it also disable the wan interface together.

please use 'option disabled 1'
after making this change show the output of 'uci show network'

That wan_6 interface is spawned by IPv6 rapid deployment, you can inhibit it with option iface6rd 0.
