#21422 new defect

WMM Powersave does not fallback to Legacy Powersave with uapsd_advertisement_enabled=0

Reported by: mwCT Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: packages Version: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Keywords: WMM APSD powersave deauth Cc:

Utilizing a TL-WA841N as a wireless bridge repeater (relayd).

With WMM enabled observed "Deauthenticated due to local deauth request" and re-authentication coincident with the wpa_group_rekey cycle with an Android cell phone, which would not respond to ICMP echo requests. Disabling WMM Powersave (option uapsd '0') did not change the behavior.

This does not occur on a Tomato based router (WMM enabled and APSD Mode disabled (default)).

Disabling WMM or setting htmode to NONE works around the issue - the phone rekeys and responds to pings in Legacy Powersave.

Did you put that uapsd option in the wifi-iface or the wifi-device section?

Placed both option uapsd '0' and '1' in the wifi-iface (option mode 'ap') section and verified uapsd_advertisement_enabled=0 or uapsd_advertisement_enabled=1 in

It's interesting that placing wake-lock WIFI_MODE_FULL_HIGH_PERF on the phone addresses the "Deauthenticated due to local deauth request" and re-authentication cycle with WMM enabled on the router, and this wake-lock is not needed with WMM disabled (legacy powersave) on the router.

It appears cc sets uapsd_advertisement_enabled=1 when the chipset supports uapsd. With WMM disabled and uapsd signaled the phone goes to sleep and it appears the WMM handshaking does not occur for wake-up --> wifi disconnect.

IMHO wmm_enabled=0 and uapsd_advertisement_enabled=0 go together. The coupling is a manual configuration. WMM Mode can be changed in LuCI but uapsd cannot. It's possible some may experience wifi disconnects because of the WMM / legacy powersave configuration.

In summary, manually or behind the scene:

1) wmm_enabled=0 and uapsd_advertisement_enabled=0
2) wmm_enabled=1 and uapsd_advertisement_enabled=0
3) wmm_enabled=1 and uapsd_advertisement_enabled=1

And in my case option 1 works wonderfully and option 2 should work but results in disconnects. Option 3 is the best of all worlds.
