#21419 new defect

dnsmasq fails

Reported by: michael.j.knap@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: base system Version: Trunk
Keywords: dnsmasq Cc:

If assigning the same static ip to two different MAC addresses, (which by the way I know is a little unreasonable but I knew the MAC addresses would be exclusive in that either one or the other would ask for an ip, but never both at the same time), dnsmasq boots and provides dhcp responses, but doesn't provide dns queries. Using Chaos Calmer. I assigned the ip addresses with LuCI interface. Upon trying to diagnose the failure, I sshd into box and restarted dnsmasq. I didn't notice any identifying failure on the command line. I'd be happy to check logs if I knew where they were! I identified the fauilure by removing the changes above. I can provide files and reproduce if helpful.

This is not that unusual. The typical use case is for laptops with docking stations. You want Wire and WiFi roaming continuity with addressing. See "As a special case, in DHCPv4, it is possible to include more than one hardware address. eg: --dhcp-host=11:22:33:44:55:66,12:34:56:78:90:12,"
