#2077 closed enhancement (obsolete)

update redirect support for busybox httpd

Reported by: netprince (at) vt (dot) edu Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Features Paradise
Component: base system Version: Kamikaze trunk
Keywords: httpd captive portal Cc:

I used this patch to write a pretty decent captive portal using only the busybox httpd and a few shell scripts. The patch adjusts the redirect feature currently in httpd to only occur instead of a 404 (not found) error. Sort of like a 404 error page, but instead a 404 redirect.

The patch also adds a '?redirect=[original url]' to the redirect so that after signon, the user can be redirected back to their home page.

Finally, the patch adds a few environment variables that are helpful for the scripts to authenticate logins.

I would understand if the devs just want to keep httpd simple, I just figured I would submit this patch in case someone likes it.

I'd like to see this added to trunk.

This is very useful! I'm using it when users need to be interrupted and informed about network status or other useful things like "Pay your bill." :)
