Disable HT40 for DFS. Read logs!

doesn't help. and even if it would HT20 in AC mode has some bug that results in significant throughput drop (verified on channel 40)

it happens in latest trunk too. signal strength is improved but still lower (68%) than with proprietary driver (83%), i noticed the radio is fixed at 17dBm and can't be set to 20dBm.

AC mode HT20 gives about 5Mbps DL speed max and UL speed stuck at 0.15 Mbps. something wrong with this too.

what kind of client device did you use? and are you sure that the HT20/VHT20 issues are actually caused by mt76? did you try a different client as well?

AR9462 card, tried it on 2.4GHz too and there it works without problem in HT20 mode.

i just did. BCM4322AG on win7 x64 and it works fine in HT20. this must be some bug in ath9k or card EEPROM because it gives same problem on win7 too. when it happens the RX rate in router from card is stuck at 6 or 6.5Mbps.

There may be a way that I could improve interoperability with the atheros client (I found some code in the reference drivers), I just need some more time to look into that.

I'll let you know when I have something new for you to test.

ok. i've tried reverting to xiaomi fw and set wifi to 20MHz. the card worked without problems, when flashing another fw it was transferred into router at the speed of 3 MB/s.

however, looks like i'm now facing more serious issue with 5GHz wifi... it doesn't work with stock fw anymore the way it worked when i just got the router...

reboots the device. looks like it never manages to send packet at low rate. this could be a result of outdated aircrack-ng and mdk3 tools that can't deal with 802.11n rates, but then again the same behaviour occured in legacy mode 802.11a with both wlan0 and mon0 rates set to 6M.

trying to probe for a device:

makes RX stuck at 20 MHz, rates vary up to 60 Mbps but when trying to receive data (flash image) it drops to 6.5 Mbps.
unlike the first test which failed in both modes i tried, this one was successfull in 802.11a mode, which means that probing for a device in monitor mode didn't interfere with client connection to the AP and both TX and RX rates stayed at 54 Mbps.

my guess is the rate control code is broken as well as monitor mode support.

Please check if you can enable debugfs on your ubuntu machine and show the output of:
cat /sys/kernel/debug/ieee80211/phy*/netdev:*/stations/*/rc_stats
If you can't get that enabled, please run heavy traffic from the ubuntu machine to the mt76 device and show the output of iw wlan0 station dump

still same image running r48626 and iw list shows:

RX STBC 2-streams for 2.4GHz

but only

RX STBC 1-stream for 5GHz

decided to give a try padavan firmware. the interface is impressive. however 5GHz wireless signal strength seems to be the same as with openwrt or xiaomi firmware.

while having router right next to me i was able to observe about -40dBm signal strength in airodump console, at the same time 2.4GHz was going down to approx. -23dBm

now to quote some of my prevoius post with test result from this ticket comment https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/20369?replyto=28#comment:28

in rare ocasions when connecting to 5GHz network i get 82% of signal strength at the moment the card connects and only a second later it drops to 70% or 68%, probably it gives full strength for a short time until the radio is wrongly recalibrated due to the bug somewhere in mt76 code or missing PA trigger.

i was able to confirm this: signal strength even if it was stable at -40dBm would jump to aprrox. -26dBm for a short while almost each time i reconnected to the network. the reason i stopped seeing this in graphical interface is most likely wireless backports update from 3.18 to 4

according to these tests 2.4GHz wifi would have slightly stronger signal than 5GHz (2-3db) and this perfectly coresponds to the situation that was in the beginning with xiaomi firmware. i can't understand why xiaomi fw doesn't give this full strength anymore.

another thing noticed in airodump on each router start is some kind of self connection with these mac addresses

starting speedtest dl speed is at ~10Mbps, then RX rate get stuck to 6.5Mbps, dl speed is falling until speedtest finish with result 1.25Mbps DL and 0.13 UL
