#20321 new defect

Firmware partition size is wrong for Olinuxino-RT5350F

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: packages Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

The Olinuxino-RT5350F board (probably also the -evb version) seem to be currently configured for 4MB memory when in fact it has 8MB. The result is that the "firmware" MTD partition (and the "rootfs-data" it contains) is needlessly small and almost full.

Current MTD listing looks like:

root@OpenWrt:/# cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00030000 00010000 "u-boot"
mtd1: 00010000 00010000 "u-boot-env"
mtd2: 00010000 00010000 "factory"
mtd3: 003b0000 00010000 "firmware"
mtd4: 00116ec5 00010000 "kernel"
mtd5: 0029913b 00010000 "rootfs"
mtd6: 00070000 00010000 "rootfs_data"

...while it should really look something like:

root@RT5350F-OLinuXino:/# cat /proc/mtd
dev: size erasesize name
mtd0: 00030000 00010000 "u-boot"
mtd1: 00010000 00010000 "u-boot-env"
mtd2: 00010000 00010000 "factory"
mtd3: 007b0000 00010000 "firmware"
mtd4: 00106afd 00010000 "kernel"
mtd5: 006a9503 00010000 "rootfs"
mtd6: 00490000 00010000 "rootfs_data"

Terribly sorry for apparently selecting "Packages" as "Component" - mea maxima culpa...

WTF people - is this seriously too complicated to address in a whole f@#$#@king month?!? Thank you for your attention, do please let me know what do I owe you etc...

Since there is a fix why don't you submit it to the mailing list as a proper patch as described on the main page under SubmittingPatches?

comment:4 Changed 2 years ago by anonymous

Actually, I'd have liked to do that a lot but got bogged down as soon as I tried producing something remotely resembling "a patch" on my Windows PC lacking any versioning systems so I gave up in the end. I'm just a user, not a dev...

I've attached a patch (git diff). The fix is really trivial.

I've used the modified .dts via ImageBuilder and it works as expected for images >5MB.

Let's hope that someone can pull that into trunk :-)

Replying to anonymous:

It will not be pulled into trunk from this ticket.

As written four month ago by florian, you will have to submit the patch to the OpenWrt mailinglist for (public) review. Follow the steps outlined in SubmittingPatches to get this merged.
