snmpd not providing realtime data

Reported by: richb.hanover@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: packages Version: Barrier Breaker 14.07

Description

Using BB on TP-Link Archer C7 (and other routers): The snmpd implementation does not always provide the correct accounting of bytes sent/received on interfaces. It seems to be "lumpy" - if the snmpd is queried every five seconds, it will return the following results:

  • value
  • value
  • value
  • newvalue = value + sum of bytes since previous change
  • newvalue
  • newvalue
  • newvalue
  • etc...

As a result, an SNMP mananger that sends frequent queryies sees a data rate of zero, zero, zero, huge jump, zero, zero, zero, huge jump, etc.

This behavior was reported in https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=274057

I could not find any way to set the OpenWrt SNMP agent to report more frequently, nor does the snmp implementation seem to support the net-snmp-agent MIB described in the forum.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Report that bug upstream please. We're merely packaging snmpd, not developing it.

Pardon my ignorance, but I don't understand how to find the upstream distro/repo. Please give me a pointer, and I'll gladly report it there. Thanks.
