#19460 new enhancement

Asus RT-N16 32mb flash size not supported

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: packages Version: Trunk

Description

The RT-N16 has 32mb flash but there is no target for the RT-N16 and so, no support for it's flash size. The image that works on it ( the generic one ) only supports flash size of 8mb.

must combine/re-configure <yours sources trunk>/target/linux/b*(one of them)/image/Makefile and perhaps other files...

I know that.
I just would like proper support without making changes to the source.

This is really misleading report & description. OpenWrt does support whole flash size. It seems you're just complaining you can't build custom firmware with much more packages in it by default.

Please don't create such fake reports.

I've recently modified brcm47xx to use new building system. It should be easy now to adjust trx command to allow bigger images. Can you provide a patch?

What's the problem of properly supporting this router by creating a target for it just like for the other ones ?

When I build an image for the RT-16N I have to:

  • change a file so that I can create a "generic" image bigger than 8MB
  • adjust the kernel configurarion to select mipsr2 and dsp

something I don't need to do for other routers where I can select them by name.
So I am complaining, yes, and I filled this as a feature enhancement and not a bug report.

I would certainly provide a patch if I know how to make it/code it.

The thing is that these two things are so trivial that I'm sure you could do it in 1 minute and make quite a lot of people happy, including myself.

and obviouly, I would be very happy to test any patch that comes by..

We are welcoming patches to make it possible to create images bigger than 8 MB like rmilecki said.

The mips74k subtarget in brcm47xx target activates mipsr2 and dsp2 support for the kernel and the packages, if it doesn't do so this is a separate bug. Feel free to send a patch for it.

this is not a bug report. it is a feature enhancement request.
