AMD Geode GX1 / Gene 4312 Board with CS5530A not booting anymore after r44809

Description

Hello,

I reported the not working IDE/CF Boot in #5850 and got the info about r44809. I compiled a new, blank image frum trunk using the Geode build option, however, after the Grub Screen, board does unpack and parse the ELF File, says Kernel booting - and then nothing happens anymore. Could not find anything on the Serial Console, either.

Before the change, the board would boot to cannot open /dev/sda2 / the waiting for /dev/mtdblock0 message, but after it, stop.

I did another compile with the x86 generic - not geode - tree. Now the board boots again to the waiting for /dev/mtdblock0 message.

I will gladly be testing changes and commits if there are any :)!

Thanks a lot

These are the direct serial logs of the x86 Generic and the x86 Geode boot.
Hope that is what you're looking for.

Awesome! Worked like a charm!
The only "hiccup" the boot process got is that the ATA Controller does work from UDMA/33 to UDMA/25 and then down to PIO4 Mode - where it finally works :).
I attached an bootlog.
I am going to test it on two other Geode Boards and report back :)!

Ah ok, I think I will need to add 8139c / 8139too support ;)!
But that should work out :)!

OK, I tested another Board, an Siemens Futro A230 and attached the log:
This one got an AMD Geode LX 800, 500 MHz and an CS5536 Chipset. It did boot very fast as you can see and did not have any ATA Controller issues.

The third Board, an Siemens Futro S100 did fail - but that was my error, as it does not use an Geode Chipset/CPU! ( It got an VIA Eden 500 ULV (500 MHz) CPU and a VIA VX800 Chipset ) With the normal x86 Generic Image, that board does also boot flawlessly.

Thanks for your hard work :)!

If you have any idea to overcome that DMA/PIO Hiccup on the CS5530A - just give me a sign and I will test and share bootlogs again - if not, don't bother too much, because it is finally working and I am very happy with that :)!

Should I enable 8139c and 8139too support in the kernel config for geode as well?

I think the Geode Boards are more of a special type of embedded board. Therefore you will need to build your own kernel to get everything working, i.e. different network chipsets, sound or stuff will depend from board to board. If you have similiar support for these NIC Chipsets included in the Generic x86 Package, I would advise to include them here as well, if not - then leave them out, to just have the same "user experience" :). On the other hand, these NIC Chipsets were used quite commonly, so including them could give most users and working connectivity without needing to build their own image... So I think in the end it wouldn't be too bad to include this support by default :)!
