RTL8187 driver loading but not producing wlan device

Reported by: thewerthfam@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Chaos Calmer 15.05
Component: kernel Version: Trunk
Keywords: kernel driver rtl8187 Cc:

Description

Using (Bleeding Edge, r43718. Testing out different USB based WiFi adapters looking for a adapter that works satisfactory in AP mode. The rtl8187 seems to be recognized at boot but no wlan device is created. Tried removing /etc/config/wireless and running wifi detect, tried removing /etc/config/wireless and rebooting and /etc/config/wireless is still empty. ifconfig doesn't show any wireless adapters either.
Here is the relevant dmesg output.

rtl8187 does not support that particular device. You need to use some other rtlwifi based driver, not sure which one.
