WLAN-LED on WRT54GL does not switch off at wifi down

Reported by: anonymous Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Kamikaze 7.06
Component: base system Version:
Keywords: wlan led Cc:

Description

If you issue a wifi up the WLAN-LED goes up. If you want to bring down WLAN with wifi-down
the WLAN-LED stays up and the Power-LED begins to flash. You can only correct the LED-State
by a echo "0" > /proc/diag/led/wlan; echo "1" > /proc/diag/led/power

More exactly the problem seems to lie in the wlc up/down command...

wifi down does not disable txpower either (according to iwconfig)

The wl driver is responsible for the wireless led state, we're not going to wrestle with the driver for control over the wireless led to satisfy cosmetic reasons. The "wifi down" command will basically translate into a "wl down" which is the correct command to disable the wifi; unfortunately the driver doesn't actually support iwconfig, so the information shown in iwconfig goes through a translation later which attempts to parse the driver state -- short version is that radio actually is down and iwconfig is incorrect.

This all translates to the wl driver being useless and us looking forward to being able to replace it with an open source driver under the 2.6 kernel.
