#17704 new defect

Unable to use USB HID devices in x86 generic 14.07-RC3

Reported by: the.wrong.christian@… Owned by: developers
Priority: normal Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: kernel Version: Barrier Breaker 14.07

I have a USB based KVM, which keeps getting reset upon keypresses, with an error message output in the kernel (dmesg tail):

[ 3111.259203] usbhid 3-1.3:1.1: couldn't find an input interrupt endpoint
[ 3111.298364] usbcore: registered new interface driver usbhid
[ 3111.298731] usbhid: USB HID core driver
[ 3115.287969] usb 3-1.1: USB disconnect, device number 15
[ 3115.911994] usb 3-1.1: new low-speed USB device number 16 using uhci_hcd
[ 3117.976071] usb 3-1.1: USB disconnect, device number 16
[ 3118.721099] usb 3-1.1: new low-speed USB device number 17 using uhci_hcd
[ 3139.250111] usb 3-1: USB disconnect, device number 10
[ 3139.250554] usb 3-1.1: USB disconnect, device number 17
[ 3139.260360] usb 3-1.2: USB disconnect, device number 12
[ 3139.269288] usb 3-1.3: USB disconnect, device number 13

Kernel version is:

Linux homeserver 3.10.49 #1 Fri Aug 8 04:56:55 CEST 2014 i686 GNU/Linux

The above dmesg is from an Acer Aspire One 751h, but the results are the same on an HP desktop using both OHCI (motherboard) and UHCI (via add in card) interfaces, so I'm inclined to believe there is a problem in the kernel configuration.

I also don't believe it's a general USB problem, as I have a USB FLASH drive installed from which I booted OpenWrt on both machines.

As a final test, I plugged the USB keyboard directly into the machine, by-passing the KVM, with the same result, and the KVM and keyboard are fine with my other Linux distributions.

I've both the squashfs and ext4 combined images, both have the same problem.
