IPv6 routing broken in trunk and Barrier Breaker

Reported by: igor@… Owned by: developers
Priority: high Milestone: Barrier Breaker 14.07
Component: base system Version: Trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

I ran 12.09 on ar71xx with no problems. With that release I was running a Hurricane Electric tunnel, and radvd to allow my LAN to access IPv6 Internet. Upon upgrade to Barrier Breaker (and later trunk snapshot as of Aug 19, 2014) I had issues with IPv6 routing using the same config files as before.

Specifically, my router could access external Pv6 addresses (e.g.: google.com) but nothing on the LAN could even though radvd properly configured addresses and routes.

The solution was to add a route for 2000::/3, like so:

ip r a 2000::/3 via 2001:470:1f06:XXX::1

Note that this is not a valid thing to do anymore and the Linux kernel was fixed way back to not require this.

Note that since after 12.09 you need to add an option ip6prefix to the 6in4 section in order for routing to work. See http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/uci/network6#in4.tunnel.henet.tunnelbroker.sixxs.static.tunnel
